The Book of the City of Ladies

“The Book of the City of Ladies” is a celebrated work of medieval literature, written at the beginning of the 15th century. It is one of the earliest feminist works in European history, in which the author creates an allegorical city inhabited by prominent women of the past and present. Christine de Pizan challenges the misogyny of her era, demonstrating women’s intellectual and moral capacities through the examples of historical and mythological heroines.
