Heart of a Dog

“Heart of a Dog” is a satirical novella by Mikhail Bulgakov, written in 1925. The work tells the story of Sharik, a stray dog taken in from the street by Professor Preobrazhensky, who performs an experiment on him by transplanting human organs. As a result, the dog transforms into a humanoid creature, Poligraf Poligrafovich Sharikov, leading to a series of comical and tragic events. The novella is a sharp satire of the Soviet regime and its attempts at “creating a new man.”
