Hard to Be a God

The book recounts the arduous mission of Earth observers on a planet whose social order mirrors Earth’s Middle Ages. The protagonist, Anton, under the identity of Don Rumata, must play the role of an aristocrat, monitoring the society’s development while keeping distant from cruel and unjust events, never revealing his true nature. He faces an agonizing moral dilemma: intervene in the course of events or remain a detached observer.
